Say what you will..

.. it’s now a fact. Investing in women, and improving their social status is key to ending poverty and slowing the AIDS epidemic.

I doubt that most would notice this, but fully developed countries tend to have laws that protect women from abuse and sexual predators, as well as programs that encourage women to work outside of the home. They don’t tend to be countries where women are discouraged from working.

Even in America, I still hear a lot of attitude about women working outside the home from men. This is something that crosses political boundaries and social status. There are still too many men that believe that a woman’s place is in the home. It is important to educate these men that this is simply not the case. If you don’t believe me, read the UN’s study on it. I think it will be an eye opener.

Lack of investing is women isn’t the problem. In many of these nations there is substantial investment in women as they are bought and sold all the time.

I don’t know that I have heard many people in America say that women shouldn’t work. I have heard that kids need a parent around and that women tend to be a better choice than men for this role (on average.) Those two statements are not quite the same.

That joke, if it was one and I do hope it was, was in such poor taste that it almost renders the rest of your comment unworthy of being read.

In answer to the second portion of your comment, no, these two statements are not the same, hence why I made no mention of people who say that kids need a parent at home.

It was black humor, but unfortunately very true. Slavery is still alive and well in much of the world, especially for women and children.
