And I have to admit that I have been tempted to do it myself.
The new macs are awfully sweet, not to mention the fact that they are really designed with someone like me in mind. I’m a style fiend when it comes to my electronics. I’ve been holding off on an mp3 player for many reasons, but the biggest one is probably that nothing is quite as attractive to me as an iPod, but I don’t want to have to install or deal with iTunes. I want drag and drop file transfer, and when I get that in a player with as much style as a sony device or an iPod, then I might get something that’s smaller than my PSP. Until then, the PSP serves the purpose well.
Still.. a million converts. That’s a hell of a thing. Kudos to Apple for managing it, and well… I hope some Microsoft execs are using this as an opportunity to take stock.
I am one of the converts – however I converted from Linux to Mac.
Why, you ask?
I wanted to get a laptop, and I am a *nix type geek. I did not want to play with the hassle of spinning linux up on a laptop, and I always loved the look and feel of the powerbooks..
So, I got a Mini to check out the OS – a month later I had my Powerbook.
I have now made the jump. I feel the Linux is great for servers, and a good workstation OS. Mac is a good general Personal Computer OS, and since it’s underpinnings are Mach and BSD, you cannot go wrong
I switched to windows from GEM sometime in 1995. I’ve played around with X windows, but I really, really love KDE so if I have to use something non-Microsoft, I prefer it to be running KDE because KDE gives me the look and feel I want without having to learn to manage something new.
I have not played with OSX at all, in fact the last time I played with a Mac, it was running OS9 and I just didn’t find intuitive to use as KDE or.. well.. anything else for a windows convert.
Do you think this is still true for OSX?
I have found that Tiger is really easy to use. It has some features that, once I got used to them, I have a hard time living w/o on my windows boxen at work (Expose is a biggie. That is the where you can set a hot corner that causes all of the windows to display in mini. You then click on the window that you want. I really do not use the taskbar anymore on my Mac – just leave all of the windows up and behind each other, then mouse guesture to the top right corner and presto. I find my self using that guesture on all of the computers that I use now. Sorta like tab completion – I hit tab all of the time in the windows command prompt and do not get the results that I want).
My best advice is to give it a try. Head on down to CompUSA (as they have macs on display) and play with one for 30 min. See what you think.
Honestly, once you start to learn the ‘mac way’ it’s hard to go back.
I will have to seriously consider a mac for my next computer. Mouse gestures? Geez! I had to ask hubby what they were… those are cool!
For what I use my laptop for, I don’t really need a pc. The only thing I’d miss is Nero.
Mac has burning built in… or.. check this out
