Someone on digg posted a link to this list of supposedly adrenaline pumping music. I’m always on the lookout for new stuff, but that list simply didn’t do it for me. So as I was reading the comments, thinking about posting my own list on his article I realized… I have a blog and I have access to youtube… I can share my own list with the rest of you!
The closing song to the first Matrix film. The guitar in this song just eases in and takes over as the bass pounds slowly, then picks up and carries you out of whatever dreamland you were in and gets you going for the day.
The opening theme for Naruto Shippuden. I know, it’s anime music but you have to give this a listen. This song just begs for you to dance to it, or at the very least tap your foot or bob your head. I’m not big on hip-hop or rap, but Japanese hip-hop for some reason… just resonates with me. Give this a shot!
I first heard this song when I reluctantly agreed to purchase Tony Hawk’s Pro-Skater 2 for my son. I was reluctant… until I heard the soundtrack for the game and actually watched my son play. The game was awesome, and this song quickly moved onto my list of morning music for being loud and including some really kick ass sounding guitar that makes me want to shout right along with the words.
Take Ella Fitzgerald, the First Lady of Song, and revisit her music with a funky beat and you have Basement Jaxx’s “Do Your Thing”. This song lifts up your soul as well as your feet, and you might even find yourself shaking your ass just a little while your ears are focused on this fine tune. Morning music for the get up and make you move beat.
I don’t think there’s a more aptly titled song than this one. Leave Home makes you feel the need to get up and do just that… leave home! Get out of the house, have a good time, enjoy your day because it’s gonna be awesome!
“You think that you don’t have to ever quit. You think that you can get away with it. You think the light won’t be ever lit. Well it’s almost over now, almost over now.” Um… yeah! That’s exactly what I think some mornings, and if I didn’t have this song blaring in my ears, I wouldn’t make it to class. I don’t know all the words, but lines like, “You don’t succeed, cause you hesitate” just tick me off and motivate me to kick ass for the rest of the day. I love it.
If you don’t speak Japanese, you might not get this one. This song has a note of hope for a love that just walked by in the lyrics… I love that about this song, not to mention the sound of the 12 string guitar. I’m a sucker for 12 string guitar and unfortunately, this video that I found is a live version, in which You and Chachamaru try to imitate the sound of a 12 string with two standard acoustic guitars. Either way, it’s not bad and Gackt… those pipes.. that face. *sigh*
There’s something with the Stones and distinct openers to songs. Those first seven notes are so recognizable that everyone knows them, even if they don’t know what song they’re from. What makes this song morning music is 1. The first seven notes. You hear those and immediately you wake up and look around and wonder what’s up.. and 2. as the song moves in you hear the words, “If you start me up, if you start me up I’ll never stop.” Now, is this the meaning of those lyrics? At 7 am when you want to be back in bed… it could mean anything and that’s a beautiful thing at that time of day.
The funky sounds of RHCP… little else can wake you up in the morning like this. I’m not sure what else to say. Listen and you will understand.
This is the one song that I agreed with the other article on, but rather than being at the top of my list, it’s at the bottom. This song came out in 1991 and defined a generation of teenagers at the time that it was released, and I was among those kids. Not only does the loud guitar wake me up in the morning, it reminds me that there was a time in my life when I completely did not give a shit about anyone or anything else. I’m never going back there.
Enjoy, if you have any additions to make to my list, feel free to post them in the comments along with your thoughts and a youtube link.
