The Guardian managed to snag an interesting and extremely rare interview with Miyazaki Hayao. Miyazaki-san has not agreed to be interviewed by the press for ten years, so this is a truly rare treat. Check it out.
Miyazaki-san reveals himself to be exactly the sort of animator one would hope for from Japan. He even admits in the article that he and his producer personally told Disney to screw off when it came to making scene cuts in his films. Disney releases them as per contract and that’s that. There’s no denying who has creative control over Miyazaki-san’s work.
After reading the interview, I wanted to shake the man’s hand. It made me proud to be a fan of his work.
