Everyone has probably seen the news by now. A 41 year-old primary school teacher who was attempting to get work in Thailand has confessed to the murder of JonBenet Ramsey. There has been an outpouring of sadness from the media that JonBenet’s mother, Patsy, is not alive to see this man’s trial for herself. It is sad, but we can’t change that fact.
I’m not sure that I believe that this man is her killer. The comments that have been coming out of the Thai police departments, if true, make it plain that this guy had nothing to do with JonBenet’s death. JonBenet was not drugged and she had not been sexually “violated” so to speak, and yet the Thai police have told reporters that the suspect admitted that he did these things to her.
What it means? I don’t know. In a way, I hope that the Thai police were just oversensationalizing things, because JonBenet’s memory needs to rest now and her killer’s conviction will allow her to do that. It’s bad enough that she was always on display in life, she deserves some peace in death.
Correction 8/19/06: JonBenet had, in fact, been sexually assaulted. The article that I based my original information on did not mention anything specific about it, and I’ve since learned otherwise thanks to this article.
