Just for Bill

A while back, Bill at Reason’s Edge made a comment that the anime industry was getting flooded with titles these days. I found a quote in an interview with Jerry Chu, from Bandai Entertainment Inc, that really fits in line with the argument he was making and just had to post it. Even the industry insiders agree with him.

“Bandai continues to be one of the strongest players. Right now what’s happening is a lot of consolidation. You have the ShoPro/Viz merger. You’re going to have a lot more Japanese companies involved internationally and in North America. It’s getting to be really crowded for a market that is still represented by barely 2% of all home video sales. There’s a lot of titles out there and the market’s getting really saturated. The end consumer is getting flooded with choices and with a limited budget, getting pickier.”

Terry Schiavo

Michael Schiavo turns down 1million $

And while I find it sad that he is doing that, I have found that this excerpt from “The Promise” by Sharon Olds, has helped me to somewhat understand what Michael Schiavo is saying.

“[…] you know me from the bright, blood-
flecked delivery room, if a lion
had you in its jaws I would attack it, if the ropes
binding your soul are your own wrists, I will cut them.”

If, indeed, he is doing what he is doing out of love, then he must have this sort of determination, and that.. is something to be admired.… [Read More]

Cats

I have spent a lot of time researching my pets to determine what their behaviors mean, to understand when they are happy and sad, and what to do in problem situations. That said, let me add some particular emphasis to the words “my pets”. This refers to my dog and my fish.

I have gone out of my way to educate myself about these animals and the keeping of them, so today, after having spent the evening at the vet with my husband’s cat, I am asking myself, “Why in the heck haven’t I ever bothered to read about cats and cockatiels?”

Some part of me assumed that my husband understood what he was getting into when he brought these creatures home. But, I haven’t kept in mind that he was a bachelor then and that any information he acquired at the time has not necessarily been passed on to me.… [Read More]

Short Story Author Arrested for Terrorism?

Student Arrested For Terroristic Threatening Says Incident A Misunderstanding

Hat tip: tsykoduk

Holy.. shite. So the kid writes a short story about zombies over running a high school and gets arrested because he threatened terrorism? I absolutely… do not think so. Either the kid is lying, or he’s telling the truth and the police department in Lexington, KY has jumped to an absolutely ludicrous conclusion that allows them to think they have the right to arrest him on the basis of the content of a fictional tale.

What ever happened to freedom of speech? I believe that would be right here in the Bill of Rights, Amendment I.

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press […].”

Presuming the kid in question is telling the truth, his arrest is a violation of the first amendment.… [Read More]
