The Case For “Shat”

It is not often that I find myself inventing new words in the English language. I know lots of people that are fond of inventing words that are appropriate to the situation. My grandmother is fond of “hookenpocky” to describe when someone is sick and you have no idea what’s wrong with them. My husband, having spent several years of his youth in the South frequently rolls out the word “aight” which isn’t really a word, but is a contraction of the two words, “all” and “right”. For years, my friends and I have used “w00t!” to express celebration, but only after someone else coined it.

I’m not responsible for coining this one either, but it makes sense and I think we should consider adding it to our mental vocabulary because seriously folks, it is a legal word and it is the past tense form of “shit”. It is also infinitely more amusing and sounds hilarious when you say it, unlike the present tense form of the word.… [Read More]

Libra Girl and the… Bear?

Most mornings, my husband gets my daughter out the door for school and I sleep in a bit until its time to wake up my son and do home school with him. This morning, there was a knock at my bedroom door at the ungodly hour of 7:35. I looked at the clock and said, “What is it?”

I heard this small, scared voice that I don’t normally hear from my teenagers anymore say, “Mom, can you give me a ride to school?”… [Read More]

Shifting Gears

My son will be 16 this year. Normally, I wouldn’t tell you this because I am very private about my children’s identities online, but this time, it’s important for you to understand so I’m going to throw caution to the wind here.

Last week, he went in to take the test to get his learner’s permit. I was at the salon having my hair done at the time, but thankfully for my husband, the DMV was just the next shopping center over, so he took the kid in and the kid passed the test to get his permit on the first run through. At the time, I was so proud. I’d had to take the written test twice before I got my permit, but not my kid. He had studied, he was prepared. So I sent out a text message to everyone in my family and announced his joyous news. Driving is a rite of passage for us after all.… [Read More]

Cents and Nonsense

I saw the news this morning that the Obama administration told Citibank to ditch their plans to order a 50 million dollar jet from a French company and thought, “Wow… that jet represented jobs for French workers. I bet France is pissed.” and it occurred to me that no one is thinking about the bigger picture when it comes to the economy.

I believe that it is necessary to spend money in order to create stability in a capitalistic environment. I also believe that manufacturing jobs in France probably mean offices in the US that employ Americans. Now, I’m not sure that this is the actual case in this specific situation, but in most cases I suspect it is the truth. … [Read More]

Smartphone Experts HD Skin Case

SEHDSkin1 Shopping for a case for my iPhone 3g has been a nightmare. I really enjoyed my case for my previous gen iPhone, the Inno case by Seidio. That case had everything I wanted. It was a hard sided case with a grippy texture to it so that the phone didn’t slip out of my hands. It was felt lined on the inside, so it didn’t chew up my phone and it fit around the bezel of the phone so that it could be used without peeling up a screen protector.

I know that’s a tall order for a case, but Seidio performed the job beautifully and then they brought out the Inno II for the iPhone 3g, which I honestly don’t like as much. There’s a hole in the back of the case to expose the apple on the back of the phone, which to me just screams dust and scratch magnet, and then there’s the fact that they’ve introduced new colors and I’m not really a fan of any of them.… [Read More]
