Britney Spears Has Breakdown?

Britney ‘on the edge of a nervous breakdown’-News-World-US & Americas-TimesOnline

This poor girl. I don’t know what else to say, except that she’s obviously going through a difficult time in her life. Can you imagine what it must be like to be in her shoes? You’re 25 years old, your ex-husband is the scumbag who showed the nation Janet Jackson’s nipple at the superbowl a few years ago and you’ve had two kids and have a slowing pop career. In addition to whatever other problems she might have, but these things alone would be enough for me to rethink my life and question my place in it.

What’s even more sad is that while I’ve never had any respect for this girl as a performer, that has always been because I have never believed that the child had any respect for herself. The destructive behavior started with the skimpy clothes and risque music videos, and it’s just getting worse.… [Read More]

Poem of the Day: In Memory of W.B. Yeats by W.H. Auden

I’ve decided that periodically, when I come across one of these things, I’ll share them. This poem was assigned for my literature class today, and Auden’s poetry has always spoken volumes to me, but this one just seemed to strike a particular chord. Read it. Read it out loud and just see how it feels.

I

He disappeared in the dead of winter:
The brooks were frozen, the airports almost deserted,
And snow disfigured the public statues;
The mercury sank in the mouth of the dying day.
What instruments we have agree
The day of his death was a dark cold day.

Far from his illness
The wolves ran on through the evergreen forests,
The peasant river was untempted by the fashionable quays;
By mourning tongues
The death of the poet was kept from his poems.

But for him it was his last afternoon as himself,
An afternoon of nurses and rumours;
The provinces of his body revolted,
The squares of his mind were empty,
Silence invaded the suburbs,
The current of his feeling failed; he became his admirers.… [Read More]

Zen V

The naked zen, as many of you may know, got a child this christmas when a zen v plus was purchased for my son. The decision to purchase this device was made based on my experiences with my zen micro. I knew the interface was easy to use and I assumed it would be just as well made.

Boy was I wrong. At this point, I’m seriously considering getting my son an iPod shuffle, in spite of the fact that I really hate, and do not want to install, iTunes on my pc. If and/or when I get a macbook, that won’t be a hard decision, but right now, it’s not happening. All in all, I think the zen v is a great player, but for my son, it really had to be something durable and all the reviews I’d read at the time stated that the player was durable. It was not a hard drive based player and it had a color screen.… [Read More]

Homework Blues

So, I get home today after having discovered at the last minute that we’re being quizzed on all 64 adjectives she’s introduced so far this quarter and realize that I must make flash cards. I sat down to start this project and lo and behold… not a single index card in the house. I’m so used to having index cards on hand that I guess I just didn’t realize when my son ran me out of them. I did happen to have an obscene amount of cardstock that we’re never going to use, so I made do with that, and cut each of the cards in half so I didn’t have to use as many pages and would still have an obscene amount of cardstock that we’re never going to use when I got through.

My hands now hurt from all the writing on cards in sharpie, followed by writing on the backs in a ballpoint.… [Read More]

Old Age

I’m taking an independent workout class for PE this quarter. I’ve tried walking by myself and doing free weights, and various and sundry things, but nothing was quite getting my heart rate to where it’s supposed to be for the workouts to be effective.

The last time I did anything that really wore me out was the last time I walked my dog. I haven’t taken him for walks in a very long time because he hasn’t wanted to go very far because of his arthritis. Still, I had to do something and we’ve been giving him glucosamine and chondroitin to help boost his joints and help stop any further arthritic deterioration. So tonight, I figured I’d give it a shot.

Tonight, my old lab made it all the way to the top of our hill and back down in the required 20 minutes that I’m supposed to be out doing things.… [Read More]
