Please excuse the construction dust…

I’m testing out some new themes. Apologies for all the construction dust. I’m digging this one called vistered little and am currently customizing the wallpapers to fit in with my blog a bit better. There are plans to fully integrate my website into my wordpress blog, which would be very nice because then I could actually allow comments on my poetry and short fiction!

Anyway, please pardon the mess and safe and happy surfing!

Life Imitates Art: Vicious Duo of Grannies Murder 2

This is a heck of a thing. When I saw the headline on CNN, I immediately thought of Monty Python’s skit with images of vicious gangs of grannies who were burying people in piles of leaves in public parks, and badgering their grandchildren to make sure that they had plenty of balls of wool for their knitting.

These women were a little more ruthless. Apparently they befriended some homeless men and then took life insurance policies out on them, then got into a car that they stored in a garage and mowed the homeless men down so they could benefit from the insurance policy. The women are 73 and 75 years of age, and the picture on the page doesn’t look all that grandmotherly, she actually looks kind of scary with her 60’s big hair football helmet of death.

Who needs three more planets anyway?

This is a great editorial about the current debate going on in astronomy circles that revolves around the classification of Pluto, Charon, Ceres and… *cringe* Xena. Many of the astronomers I’ve spoken to believe that these bodies are Kuiper Belt Objects and not planets. For years, there has been a movement to try to declassify Pluto as a planet, and who can blame these guys anyway? I mean it is named after a cartoon dog. At least Xena carries on the tradition with the object being named after a character on a TV Show. I’m just not sure that Xena deserves to be immortalized like that.
So… just as this editorial asks, who do these astronomers think they are anyway?

JonBenet’s Killer?

Everyone has probably seen the news by now. A 41 year-old primary school teacher who was attempting to get work in Thailand has confessed to the murder of JonBenet Ramsey. There has been an outpouring of sadness from the media that JonBenet’s mother, Patsy, is not alive to see this man’s trial for herself. It is sad, but we can’t change that fact.

I’m not sure that I believe that this man is her killer. The comments that have been coming out of the Thai police departments, if true, make it plain that this guy had nothing to do with JonBenet’s death. JonBenet was not drugged and she had not been sexually “violated” so to speak, and yet the Thai police have told reporters that the suspect admitted that he did these things to her.

What it means? I don’t know. In a way, I hope that the Thai police were just oversensationalizing things, because JonBenet’s memory needs to rest now and her killer’s conviction will allow her to do that.… [Read More]
