Farewell Polaris

For those of you who don’t know… polaris is my server. I went back to working nights for a company that I found to be immoral so that I could buy polaris.

It was booted up for the first time in May of 1997. As purchased, it was a pentium 200 with a 4 gig hard drive, 256 meg of ram, and not much else going for her. With these older machines, it’s impossible to get them to boot off modern hard drives with capacities reaching into insanity. So, after many tries of repartitioning blank drives, and various and sundry other things to keep her limping along, she finally gave up the ghost this evening, at approximately 5:30 pm.

Who knew that the majority of people actually realized how shitty the gas mileage was on SUVs and Trucks prior to the hike in gas prices. Even though it’s costing me 30$ a week in gas, I almost hope that gas prices stay high.. so that people will quit polluting our planet and using up what little is left of our oil resource at a rate that makes it almost as disposable as a paper towel.… [Read More]

Amen to that Sister!

Normally, I don’t follow entertainment news, but you can’t surf the news without having seen the images of Kate Moss doing a line of coke.

So.. I submit for your approval, this article written by Suzanne Ontiveros of the Chicago Sun-Times. Man.. does it say a mouthful. She really takes the fashion industry to task for its treatment of Moss after the photos were published, and I have to say that while I don’t approve of Moss’s drug use, Ontiveros is bang on with regard to the industry that created Moss and her addiction.… [Read More]
